Drawing on the Cosmatesque geometry of Roman basilica pavements, the Living Chapel is embedded in the Calderini Garden, aligned with the remains of the former entrance portico of the Casa dei Cori. Once the site of a Renaissance residence — probably by Bramante and owned by the Corio family — the complex was destroyed during World War II, leaving only an ornate façade with columns and statues. This surviving threshold now serves as the gateway to the garden, lending it a powerful historical presence.
The design unfolds through a radial pattern of circles that structure a meaningful path, resonating with the idea of an “ecological conversion.” Conceived as a symbolic place of encounter among different faiths, the Living Chapel promotes a culture of peaceful dialogue and care for our common home, encouraging spiritual reflection and a renewed harmony between people and the natural world.
