The project encompasses two terraces located on different levels of a multi-story apartment in the heart of Piazza di Spagna. The direct connection to one of Rome's most iconic landmarks guided every design choice, starting with the control of the views: the vegetation is conceived as a discreet, never invasive presence, capable of guiding the gaze without obstructing the view of the city.
The lower terrace is conceived as a convivial space, dedicated to dinners and daily outdoor life. Around a large travertine table, protected by an umbrella, are placed exclusively aromatic and edible species: sage, citrus, dwarf pomegranate trees, and kitchen plants create a functional, measured landscape, linked to use and seasonality.
An external staircase leads to the upper terrace, conceived as a more rarefied and contemplative space, a veritable platform suspended beneath the Roman sky. Here, the project unfolds around a monochromatic palette, dominated by white: jasmine, agapanthus, roses, pandorea, pennisetum, and lagerstroemia define a luminous and continuous space, in dialogue with the light and the urban skyline.
A small iron pergola, screened with bamboo canes, structures the living area and introduces a sense of shade and intimacy. The lighting, integrated between the vases and plant elements, accompanies the evening use of the space, enhancing the dramatic effect without being excessive.
The project thus constructs a sequence of complementary outdoor spaces, in which function, view, and landscape find a precise balance, creating a contemporary and measured way of living high up in Rome's historic center.
